The Lion King recounts the coming-of-age story of a young lion cub named Simba, who is next in line to lead as the King of the Pride Lands succeeding his father. The African territory however is filled with secrecy and internal strife, as even in this often lighthearted musical, misfortune strikes when the young prince's father Mufasa is killed due to the intent of his evil uncle Scar, who wishes to take over as King of the Pride Lands. The immature prince chooses to escape the Pride Lands and goes into hiding that spans years. During this exile, he runs into new acquaintances, Timon and Pumbaa, who bring joy to Simba's lonely life and include him in their group. the young prince's easygoing lifestyle then takes a turn when he once more meets his long-time friend Nala, who reveals the tyranny of Scar to him and requests him to retake his rightful place as king.
This incredibly powerful story of heartbreak, strong bonds, and eventual redemption is enhanced by the original film's music, written by Elton John and Tim Rice.
